Popcorn is made from a specific type of corn (Zea mays everta) with a hard, non-porous hull that traps steam inside the kernel. Once the pressure builds high enough, the hull bursts and the kernel puffs up to 50 times its original size. Salted, caramel, or chocolate — plus loose kernels for popping at home.
